Sammy Mouzone Jr Obituary

Remembering Sammy Mouzone Jr. 1959 – 2025.

Sammy Mouzone Jr. departed this life on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Meijer Heart Center at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan following long illness. This loving son was born November 27, 1959 in Florence, South Carolina to Deloris Mouzone and the late Sam Mouzone. A graduate and track star of Dover, New Jersey High School, trained as a mechanic, worked at K-Mart in Randolph, New Jersey and also McWilliams Forge in Rockaway, New Jersey before he moved on to the job he loved, truck driving which he continued until his health would no longer allow it. He would always say “those four wheelers think truck drivers can stop on a dime” as they were always pulling out in front of him.

Phone calls to his mother is what he enjoyed, even when he was on the road, just to let her know where he was and to find out how she was doing.  He enjoyed playing games, but he always loved to win, saying the winner only won because they cheated. His love for people was always in the forefront as he was willing to help anyone in need. He loved barbecuing. His spareribs and steaks were the best. He even taught himself how to play the guitar, writing songs that he put to music.

Sammy was preceded in death by his wives, Gail (Ault) Mouzone and Elizabeth Betty (Plant) Mouzone, his beloved brother Lee Ernest Mouzone, his father Sam Mouzone, his great great grandmother Minnie (Babe) Robinson and Minnie Mouzone, great grandmother Rosa Gilmore, his grandfather Isaac Woodbury, grandmothers, Essie Mae Woodbury and Ella Mouzone, uncles Issac Woodbury Jr. and Elliot Brown, stepson Robbie Plant, grandson  James Pitts and cousins Tracy Brown and Takia Marie Bryant.

Sammy leaves to cherish his memory, children Elizabeth Valdez of Wyoming, Michigan and Tatiana Mouzone of Escanaba, Michigan, his sisters Angela Sims of Frisco, Texas, Pamela Mittelstadt of Leesburg, Florida, Stephenie Birmingham of Grapevine, Texas, his brother Darryl Mouzone of Dover, New Jersey, and his mother Deloris Mouzone of Dover, New Jersey, his aunt Marie Brown of Buffalo, New York, cousins, Bernard Brown of Georgia, Sonya Anthony Raymond of Buffalo, New York, nephew Tyrone Mittlestadt of Maryland, nieces Amber Mittlestadt of Florida, Le’Keisha Sims of Texas, his step kids Connie Pitts of Florida, Danny Plant of Washington, Peter Plant of Ohio, Michael Plant of Pennsylvania, his grandkids  Daniel Plant of Tennesee, Zach Plant of Washington, Laura Cass of Pennsylvania, Allan Plant of Pennsylvania, Shannon Zeilic of Florida, Kurt McConnell of Florida, Jose Pitts of Florida, Samantha Pitts (his namesake) of Florida, his great grand kids Weston Plant of Tennesee, Addilyn Plant of of Tennesee, Bishop Plant of Tennesee, Carrigan Plant of Tennesee, Laila Cass of Pennsylvania, Ray Cass of Pennsylvania, Adrianna Czarney of Florida, Haileigh Czarney of Florida, Brynlee Zeilic of Florida and his special friend Michelle Sardina Aradillos of Caloocan City, Manila, Phillipines. He loved his great nephew Daniel Hoque and depended on him a lot.

Hard work was what he loved so he could take care of his family. He was quite the jokester, always laughing at his own jokes. We will miss that infectious laugh.

A private funeral will be held at a later date for family and friends.
