Sharon Lee Gilmore

Sharon (Heidenga) Gilmore, 84, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, in her hometown. 

Born on September 9, 1940, Sharon grew up in the Grand Rapids area. She married her beloved husband, Arthur “Skip” Gilmore, and together they raised four children:
Steve, Tim, Laura, and Vikki. Sharon’s greatest joys came from her family—including her grandchildren, with a special bond shared with Ashley McGladdery.

For many years, Sharon welcomed children into her home, creating a place filled with love, laughter, and warmth, operating a warm and nurturing daycare in her home. She touched countless lives, instilling confidence, kindness, and joy in the children she cared for. Her compassion and dedication made her a cherished figure in the community.

Sharon was also known for her vibrant enthusiasm: she never missed a moment to sing along to Elvis Presley’s music and cheered passionately for the Detroit Pistons. Whether dancing around the kitchen or watching a game, she radiated joy and connection with those around her.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Skip; her children, Tim, Laura, and Vikki, her grandchildren, especially Ashley.

A visitation will be held on July 24, 2025, at Memorial Alternatives, located at 2432 Fuller Ave, Grand Rapids, MI 49505, from 3pm to 5pm, including a memorial prayer at 4pm. All who knew Sharon are welcomed to celebrate her life, share stories, and offer comfort.

As a way to honor Sharon's memory, the family suggests acts of kindness—perhaps sharing a favorite Elvis song with someone, cheering on a local youth team, or helping a child learn something new—honoring her legacy as a lifelong caregiver and lover of life.
