Sonja Taber Obituary

Sonja A. (Neitzel) Taber passed away peacefully at home in Lowell, Michigan, with her devoted husband Jerry by her side on the 20th of October, 2025.

Sonja was born in September 1954 in Memphis, Tennessee. Shortly after her birth, the family relocated to Michigan, where she would go on to graduate from Belding High School. Soon after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart Jerry and together they began a lifelong journey filled with love, family, and unwavering commitment.

Sonja poured herself into motherhood and creating a warm, loving home. In addition to her role as a devoted wife and mother, she worked for many years at Pfallers Clothing Store in Lowell, where she made many friends and dressed all the ladies in the community—always with a smile and her fun, perky personality. Sonja also worked part time as a nurse’s aide, where her compassion and love for helping others truly shone. Inspired by her passion for the medical field, Sonja later returned to school and earned her associate’s degree from Davenport University to become a medical assistant. She went on to work at River Valley Orthopedics, where she found not just a job, but a calling. She was passionate about her work, cared deeply for her patients, and treasured the friendships she formed with her coworkers. It was truly her dream job.

Later in life, Sonja faced significant health challenges, including heart complications that led to multiple surgeries and extended hospital stays. Despite these difficulties, her fighting spirit never wavered. Her resilience and determination inspired everyone around her as she continually overcame setbacks with grace and strength.

And, of course, no tribute to Sonja would be complete without mentioning her deep love of cats. Proudly known as the “crazy cat lady,” Sonja embraced her feline obsession with humor and pride. Her home was a shrine to all things cat—filled with cat statues, cat-themed artwork, cozy cat blankets and her feline themed clothing.

Sonja will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, strength, great sense of humor, spirited personality - never afraid to speak her mind and the deep love she had for her family and friends

She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Jerry; her devoted sons, Jason and Kyle; and her cherished granddaughter, Jenna.

There will not be a funeral or any memorial service held in accordance to her wishes.
