Thomas Lee Goulding

Thomas Lee Goulding passed away on Saturday, August 28th, at his home in Grand Rapids, MI.  Tom passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, in his sleep, from natural causes.  His final days were spent happily, seeing local concerts and helping his sons.

Tom was born in Grosse Pointe, MI, and grew up in St. Louis, MO.  Michigan was special to Tom, especially the area around Glen Lake.  He spent time there with his brothers and sisters while growing up, and later took his own family there many times to camp near Glen Lake, float the Platte River, and play at Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes.  

Tom spent most of his career as a millwright at General Motors, and had been retired for years.

Tom was preceded in death by his wife Sheila, who passed away in 2011.  He is survived by his sons Josh and Steve.  

In the last few years Tom had an important relationship with Angela, and was a loved part of her family.  He was a regular at her children’s basketball games and other events.

Tom was outgoing, and was regularly seen all over town at concerts, and working in his yard.  Everyone who encountered Tom says that he was always upbeat, smiling, supportive, and helpful.  Tom was exceptionally selfless in his life and put the care of others above himself.  He heroically cared for his mom Jane when she had cancer, and his wife Sheila when she had cancer.  He always found time to be at his sons’ sports practices, games, and band concerts, even while working overtime at General Motors.  He was very generous.  Tom was very funny and always made people laugh.  He will be missed dearly by everyone that knew him.

A memorial service will be held for Tom at Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, in Glen Arbor, MI, at 1:00 pm on Friday September 10.
