Walter “Wally” Hoffman of Byron Center formally of Hudsonville and Ada passed away at age 91 on August 1st 2021 after a long hard fight with dementia. Walter is proceeded in death by his brother Neil Hoffman (Verda), his sister Martha Schut (Herb), and his sister Mary Hesche (Ron survived). Walter is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years Marilyn Hoffman and his four children, son Doug Hoffman of Grand Rapids, daughter Elaine (Tom) Praamsma of Holland, son Andy Hoffman of Grand Rapids, and son Robin (Dawn) Hoffman of Hudsonville. Walter is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren and his younger brother Elmer (Abby) Hoffman of Hudsonville. Walter always treasured growing up on the family farm in Ada. In 1947 Walter graduated from Lowell High School and then attended Davenport University while working at Herpolsheimer’s Department Store down town Grand Rapids. He also worked at Michigan Tractor and Grand Rapids Supply before becoming a computer programmer for Spartan stores for thirty-three years. Upon retirement Walter drove vehicles for Toyota and Saturn for the following ten years. Throughout Walters’s life he always had a joy for volleyball and managed a co-ed volleyball team in Grandville for over thirty years. Along with Managing a volleyball team Walter also volunteered for the Special Olympics through Spartan Stores for twenty-five years. Walter’s Christian faith was always important to him and guided him through life. Walter was always a likeable person and pleasant to be around. He will be greatly missed.
